BIM Modeling- A More progressive approach to planning

The article enables to explore basic beliefs related to the use of BIM and throw light on when it should be used and to what extent. It is important to know the difference between non-BIM 3D CAD models and a Parametric BIM model. A BIM model can actually be the basis for planning, designing, constructing, and managing a particular facility. This enables scenarios required for multidisciplinary project stakeholders to access the BIM model in different stages in the project Lifecycle. The most important factor that dictates the success of any project employing BIM is the exactness of information embedded into the model designing.

So, depending upon the  scope, a full-fledged BIM modeling may contain many valuable information’s, such as dimensions of building elements, quantity, material resource planning, time scheduling, costing. Other important factors that contribute to success of BIM include the data-sharing and interoperability standards to allow smooth multidisciplinary collaboration between key disciplines.

The Client Requirement.   

Irrespective of whether the client actually requires BIM or non-BIM, CAD model, the BIM wave which has spread across the construction industry has forced organizations to adopt a more progressive approach to planning, designing and coordinating design models and drawings. The industry continues the transition from non-BIM approach to collaborative BIM workflows. This change is more often than not influenced by the demand side i.e. the clients. Nevertheless, the current wave of change is in the favor of adopting BIM applications and processes.
