How do architects use shop drawing

In the industry of 3D modelling, Shop Drawing is still used. There is no better way of efficiently transferring information on detail and design end of shop floor. Some of the fabrication stores use more robotic efficiencies but they’re only a few. There are certain machines available which help in cutting, drilling, welding and prepping anything but not so good at assembling. Assuming that it continues there is also a need for drawing designer or a detailer. Shop detailing or shop drawing have evolved in the past few years. It was an art which used draft tables, electric pencils, sharpeners, shaving brushes, etc. Now, it is the mouse of the computer along with the monitor and high power software like Tekla structure, Auto CAD, Auto Desk revit, etc.

Right from conception to the paper

Often it’s a very good idea to sketch on the paper to start the process of 3D modelling. The architect or designer would then work on it and create a whole set of sketches and drawings of the concept. Once he is satisfied with the sketches he would send it to his client for approval. When accepted the process of construction may start, and employing a general construction expert for looking out for trades is the best option.

The task of developing shop drawing is frequently present in one of the trading routes, and in such case it includes mechanical shop drawing for the ducting work, structural steel detailing for decking, steel, concrete, etc.
