Steel detailing is an activity in which production is done for shop drawing for a steel fabricator. A steel fabricator is a company who provides and offer services for installation of the steel frame work for a construction project. A steel detailer’s duty is to generate drawing the drawings that the fabricator. It also helps to generate the layout instructions to facilitate the installation of the steel frame work.
A steel detailer is a person who produces detailed information regarding the steel fabrication. A steel detailer with the help of the architect and engineers, produce the shop drawing for the fabricator. A steel detailer uses all possible sets of plans to provide detailed drawings with exact dimensions. A steel detailer plays various roles in the overall project and most responsible for the smooth processing of the project. A steel detailer must have all aspect of regulation and guidelines.
Techniques of the steel detailing:
Steel detailing was accomplished with some specific drafting methods by using various instruments;
• Pencils
• Paper
• Drafting tools
Drafting tools are as follows:
• Parallel bar or drafting machine
• Triangles
• Templates of circles
• Other useful shape
Mathematical tables are as follows:
• Tables of logarithms and other useful calculation.
But today, hardly these techniques were used. Technology is much modern so it is replaced by computer aided drafting by using software especially for designing purposes. Some time it is done by using 3-D Modeling application especially for steel detailing. Structure of detailing requires skills in drafting, mathematics, logic, reasoning, spatial, visualization and communication.
