What is known by Fabrication Drawings – Importance of Fabrication Drawings

Fabrication Drawings are one of the specific types of detailed drawings or virtually assembly drawings. This drawing is used when numbers of items are assembled as fabrication. This drawing further includes the list of material parts identifying the materials used for building fabrication. It also includes the weld details. The materials used must be identified according to their relevant codes and standards.

Uses or Purposes of Fabrication Drawings:

The fabrication drawings are mostly used for:

•    Sheet metal
•    Structural steel
•    Handrails
•    Stairs
•    Architectural steel work and more

It is important to describe the fabrication drawings in clear notes about the heat treatment and requirement of stress relieving prior or during the completion of the process.

This drawing includes only fabrication details, whereas the final machining details are shown separately in another drawing.

The Fabrication Drawings are also known as machine drawings found in and around fabrication shops and machines. This drawing depicts component or the parts as orthographic projection with necessary dimensions.

This fabrication drawing is categorized into two and they include:

Part Drawing: This detail part itself that need fabrication for use like welder. This will also indicate the surface finish and material requirements

Assembly Drawing: This is based on the complexity and is often structured into sub-assemblies and top level assemblies. This drawing gives high level of clarity ofthe full product. This type of fabrication drawing includes: all parts need fabrication, fixings like nuts, washers and bolts, details about specific part numbers, supplier and manufacturer, a material bill showing the complete list of parts, cut lists stating the angles and length and much more.
